Nail reconstruction is where a prosthetic nail is built upon the existing, damaged nail to create a normally presenting nail. This is a painless procedure and can also reduce pain when the nail bed is painful. The system lasts usually around 6-8 weeks, but this is variable. Over time, the procedure will need some minor adjustments to keep it presenting well, but can be a really good option for weddings, and summer holidays where you may wish to show off your toes!
The paraffin wax bath treatment may not be suitable for those suffering with Some medical conditions. A full assessment prior will determine a patient's eligibility.
Micro holes are drilled into the nail to help active ingredients penetrate deeper into the nail bed and get to work where they’re needed most. As with most fungal nail treatments this may require repeat visits (on average every 6 weeks) and patients will need to apply the Lamisil treatment solution at home as well. Success rates tend to be much higher than using topical applications, although an affected nail can still take up to 18 months to heal and grow out fully.
The toe is numbed with local anaesthetic, the problematic area of nail/ whole nail is removed and then treat with Phenol to stop regrowth. if you would like more information on this please contact A&C Podiatry we would be happy to discuss options.
